Since I first learned a couple chords on the guitar, I have been writing original material. After a few piano lessons, my desire to make something of my own made it difficult to pay attention to my assignments. This is not to say that I am a great or even good songwriter. I was 36 when I finally came to accept that people just couldn’t relate to the music I created. After spending a good deal of money, time, and energy shopping my material to publishers and record companies, receiving only a few nibbles, I finally threw in the towel.

On GarageBand.com, my songs did fairly well, but I came to conclude that had more to do with the fact that most of people reviewing my stuff were fellow musicians than my songs having real merit. This realization did not come without pain, but it had to come.

I did, however, find that I was pleased with my results having played every instrument, sung all vocals, recorded all tracks, and mixed/mastered a decent sounding 11 song CD in 2005. I find it fun to leave it alone for several months, then give it a listen. This was the last recording of original music I have made as of this writing. I have hours of material that covers a very wide range of styles from experimental sound-scaping to progressive rock to small classical works created for class projects at Berklee. Much of this treasured, old stuff is yet to be transferred to digital media…gasp! Think it’s time to do that.
